Journal Entry Fifteen

Misc. Ramblings.
(Googling “misc. ramblings” returned 3000 hits, mainly from blog entries.)

Another milestone -- as of this weekend, I no longer have the strength to drive my wheelchair.

My mom will be here for a week in April. Diane and Chuck, my sister and my brother-in-law, will be here in May.

My voice is about shot, but my voice recognition software still works better than typing one letter at a time using an on-screen keyboard. I have to leave my iPod turned off so the microphone and the software aren’t affected by the music.

Next week is spring break. Julie and I plan to take a couple of day-long drives to some places I/we haven’t seen in 15 years. I want to visit Siletz via Blodgett, Nashville, and Logsden. Roads permitting I’d like to see Sahalie Falls on the McKenzie River again.

Thank to gentle prodding from several of you I’m working on a “personal history” to leave to Megan and Paige.

Driving west from Springwater Road on Redland Road, just before Viola, is a roadside memorial. Above the small white cross, on a tree, is a much larger cross with “No Bad Days” printed vertically. I like to think this was the mantra of someone in a situation similar to mine. The words give cheer on those days that I’m not well.

Monday is my next visit to the ALS clinic. It’s a good system: Julie and I will see my neurologist, a nurse, nutritionist, speech therapist, respiratory technician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and a couple others, all within four hours.

Again, I can't express how much your help – financial, emotional, and otherwise – means to my family and to me. Thank you.
